Synopsis :

It’s 1978 in Bakersfield, California. Suzanne Ricci, a widow who escaped a rough-and-tumble childhood in the oil fields, is struggling to raise her fourteen-year-old son, Danny. When she discovers the stabbed and beaten body of her neighbor, Reggie, she conceals evidence Danny may have attended the all-male party where Reggie died. More murders occur, and as the police investigation widens, Danny becomes trapped in the coils of The Club, a group of powerful men in law enforcement and media who will stop at nothing to guard their secrets. Suzanne launches a fight against entrenched power that puts everything at risk—home, job, and a new love—to save her son.

Praise:

“A sensitively intelligent dramatization of the abuse of power.”

Synopsis :

During the tumultuous months surrounding World War I, a fortune in gold is rumored to be buried somewhere in the steep hills bordering New York’s Finger Lakes. The tale incites greed and death, wreaking havoc on the lives of three generations of women. For love-struck teenager Abby Macpherson, the gold is her link to her handsome neighbor. For Abby’s daughter, Alice, it’s the catalyst that drives her from upstate New York to the West Coast, empty and searching.

But San Francisco crime reporter Cora Brooks knows nothing about the gold until her publisher sends her to the Finger Lakes to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding a friend’s death. Was it murder? She goes unwillingly. Cora wants nothing to do with the birthplace of her mother, who disappeared when Cora was six.

Cora’s investigation immediately runs into animosity from the dead man’s wife and resistance from law enforcement. Flashbacks of the night her mother disappeared begin to haunt her. As she delves more deeply into the story, it becomes increasingly entwined with the gold and the convoluted history of her own family. She plunges forward, determined to learn the truth, risking her sanity and even her life.

Praise:

Thread of Gold is a novel that has it all! This is a well crafted tale that will keep you turning the pages. You will find yourself rooting for the characters one minute and despising others the next.
